Wallpaper Talk: Single Rolls, Double Rolls & Two-Roll Sets
Wallpaper comes in various sizes globally, and when you’re browsing for the perfect design, you might encounter terms like “single roll, “double roll” or “two-roll set.” But what do these terms actually mean? Let’s break them down to equip you with the knowledge you need while shopping for wallpaper.
Single Roll & Double Roll
When hearing the term “single roll”, don’t confuse it with the meaning of being “one roll.” It is not one roll. Single roll refers to a size, not to a quantity. A single roll is usually about 53cm wide and 4 metres in length. A standard double roll typically measures around 53 centimetres in width and 10 metres in length, although these specifications can differ by manufacturer. So a double roll is double the length of a single roll.
At Milton & King, our wallpaper rolls are designed at 61.5 centimetres in width and 10.05 metres in length. So, you’re not only getting a double roll in length, but you’re also getting something a bit wider than the industry standard. If you’re working with a wallpaper installer to determine the quantity you need, it’s vital they have the exact measurements to ensure you order the right amount. We suggest using the wallpaper calculator on our website, which is specifically tailored to our roll sizes and will help you figure out how many rolls you’ll require.
Two-Roll Set
Some designs on the Milton & King website are offered as two-roll sets, ideal for larger patterns. For instance, designs like Cranes are large enough to span across two strips of wallpaper before they repeat. When you order a two-roll set and choose a quantity of one, you receive a complete set consisting of two double rolls. Each set will include an A-ROLL and a B-ROLL, clearly marked on the packaging. Unless indicated otherwise, installation requires alternating between the two rolls: you’ll hang a drop from ROLL A, then one from ROLL B, and repeat this pattern across your wall. It’s crucial not to use all of ROLL A before starting on ROLL B, as this will result in mismatched designs.
Here are a couple of examples of designs sold as two-roll sets:
Now that you have a clear understanding of single rolls, double rolls and two-roll sets, you’re ready to choose wallpaper that perfectly fits your space. This insight will help you avoid the hassle of ordering too little or too much. Plus, you won’t be caught out by low prices for wallpaper that offers only half the coverage of a double roll. So, go ahead and shop for wallpaper with confidence and a discerning eye!
