Wallpaper For The Hallway: A Bright and Bold Opportunity
The hallway’s a fascinating space, the connector between one room and another. Often overlooked, it’s a prime spot for doing something a bit special. You’ll hardly see more than a quick glimpse of the hallway from any room it connects to. But that glimpse can bring a grin to your face. And strolling down the hallway might make you feel like you’re on your own private catwalk. Here are some tips to turn your hallways from unnoticed to unforgettable.
LIGHT AND BRIGHT HALLWAY WALLPAPER
Many hallways are dark spots since all the windows are in the rooms, leaving hallways feeling a bit gloomy. If your hallway’s already on the darker side, avoid dark paint or wallpaper; it can make the space feel tight. Go for something light and bright with your hallway wallpaper choice to really lift the vibe of your home.
The image below shows Camila Pavone’s hallway. She went with the Sarah Annie wallpaper, which not only lightened up the area but also added some visual interest behind her wall art without clashing with it.
Jenna from the Rain On A Tin Roof blog spruced up her mudroom and hallway with the Hawthorn design. This vivid bird wallpaper, with dashes of green and red, brings heaps of light and colour into the hallway. Plus, the lattice on the lower part of the wall adds a quaint country cottage vibe.
BOLD HALLWAY WALLPAPER
Hallways don’t need to match any specific decor theme, similar to powder rooms, making them perfect for a bold statement. Even if your bedroom’s got that Scandi minimalism going on, your hallway can be the cheeky mate, best in small doses, maybe with a bevvy in hand. You’re just passing through, so why not make it a fun trip with some audacious wallpaper?

GEOMETRIC HALLWAY WALLPAPER
To mess with how we perceive height and depth, think about going geometric. A simple stripe can stretch or lift a hallway. For a bit of both, choose a geometric pattern that’s bright and bold. Jewel Marlowe made use of the Simplemente Puntos design to achieve this.
But hallways vary. Some are dark, boxed-in areas with rooms off to the sides. Others might have just one wall with a rail or window, where light and space are more plentiful. In these scenarios, dark wallpapers aren’t off-limits. A single-sided geometric wallpaper might look a bit off. Here, textured wallpaper can be a lovely addition. However, if your hallway’s pretty open to the rest of the house, sticking to your overall style might be the go.
In the image below, Shavonda Gardner used the City Scape design just above the chair rail, balancing the dark blue wallpaper so it doesn’t make the hallway feel too dark. With white walls above and below, it creates an interesting space with a striking contrast.
