THE TRADITIONAL HOME OFFICE
If you’re after setting up a more traditional office at home, you might be keen on darker, more masculine decor. Offices, especially in a corporate setting, are all about power and sorting out the numbers. Here’s how some have styled their traditional home office
Jaci from @jaci.daily goes for the Stalactite Wallpaper, which uses the shibori technique but also has a geometric vibe to make the walls look taller. The darker decor, like the desk, gives the room a no-nonsense feel.
A herringbone wallpaper is a great choice. It’s good for just about any room. @livingpeterson’s used it in their home office with the Thunderbolt Blue look. With a black desk and dark wood, it’s the place to sort out the family’s budget. “No movies this month, mate. We’ve got Christmas credit card bills to pay.”
A HOME OFFICE THAT INSPIRES
Maybe you’re not after your office looking like any old office. You want it to be a fun, exciting spot that fires up your imagination, not just a place for crunching numbers. Here’s some inspo to get your creative juices flowing:
Merichelle from We’re The Joneses turned her once chaotic office into a neat, feminine space. It was originally for her husband when she was pregnant, but now she’s the one working from home. She’s gone for the Birds Of Paradise wallpaper, which has this gorgeous pink chinoiserie look. She also gave the dark furniture a bright white makeover. Check out the before and after below.
Dabito took a room with no purpose and made it a creative office that doubles as a chill-out zone, inspired by a Vietnamese French painter, Mai Trung Thứ. He picked the Travelers Palm design by Bethany Linz, calling it “a really subtle and calming wallpaper” that “changed the vibe completely, adding richness and texture.” Have a gander at the transformation below.
Kathy from Up-To-Date Interiors had a room without windows and decided to bring the outdoors in with Woodland Birds wallpaper, giving it the fresh feel of the English countryside. Who needs windows, right?
From the attic to the basement, Stephanie from Casa Watkins Blog transformed her husband’s barely used office into a colourful “mum cave” using Hockney Wallpaper by Kitty McCall on the ceiling. Now, she’s got inspiration to look up to.
Medina Grillo, a DIY and home improvement blogger, only had a nook for her office. She used Nixon Wallpaper with its criss-crossing lines to add some zing and separate it from the rest of the room, focusing with a geometric design.
Ashley from Curls & Cashmere has a room that does it all, including her blog work while the washing’s on. She’s chosen the Shibori Star design to make a statement, clearly not wanting her office to be just another boring space.
What’s your dream home office like? If you were to pick a wallpaper, what style and colour would make it a productive pad? From what we’ve seen, you can go for masculinity or femininity, keep it fun or keep it serious, or pick something geometric for focus or bold and bright to lift your spirits. The only limit is what you can dream up.
